Do you only service gardens in the Mt. Pleasant area?
We are a locally based gardening company operating in Mt. Pleasant. We service the entire Vancouver area, with a focus on Mt. Pleasant and adjacent neighbourhoods.
How do I get started?
Filling out our contact form is the first step. We will then contact you within 3 business days and schedule a visit from an estimator to provide a free 30-minute consultation and an estimate.
Can we discuss design ideas during the free consultation?
During your initial free 30-minute consultation, we discuss your project and make a plan that results in an estimate. Talking about design ideas and transforming your garden is what we love to do and that’s why we offer design and consulting packages.
Great! Now that we have finished the free consultation, can we start designing right away?
Absolutely! We will however ask you to agree to one of our design packages before we begin to create design elements such as plant lists, drawings, layout, materials, etc.
Is there a minimum spend?
Yes. We have a 4 hour minimum for single visit projects or clean-ups. Regular maintenance plans have a 2 hour minimum per visit.
What about a deposit?
For project work and maintenance plans that include design work we require a 50% deposit upfront on the total cost of plants and supplies needed for your new garden design elements.
I’d love to have you install an irrigation system in my garden. Can we do that?
We focus primarily on design, consulting, regular maintenance, seasonal cleanups, small garden renos and soil/mulch installation. We don’t offer irrigation system installations.
What about building a fountain or hardscaping?
We don’t offer decorative water systems or hardscaping installations but we do collaborate with trusted contractors who specialize in these design features to help us with our installations.
How much are your services?
Rates for hourly labour and maintenance are $68/hour.
Design services are $130/hour.
Selection, pickup, and delivery of materials is $70/hour.
GST of 5% will be added to these rates and to material costs.
We are fully insured and use electric tools and equipment, and provide good care for our team. We provide mentorship, regular live/work balance, living wages and comprehensive health insurance benefits. The gardens are cared for under the management of a horticulturalist, and are always made with love. Our rates for new clients are competitive @ $68/hr which is less than the standard rates charged by many larger companies, and you are given more TLC by us as a smaller dedicated team.
What forms of payment do you accept? How often am I billed?
We accept cheques and etransfers. We bill monthly. Full payment is due within 2 weeks of receiving the invoice.
We are not accepting credit cards at this time.
We charge a 5% late fee for unpaid invoices over a month in arrears.
What frequency do your maintenance services run on?
We tailor maintenance packages that fit your garden and your spending plan.
Visits can be weekly, every 2 weeks, 3 weeks, once a month, or seasonal.
We also offer single cleanups in spring and/or fall with a 4-hour minimum callout.
If you have grass, we generally plan to visit at least twice a month. If you have a garden only, we can arrange monthly or seasonal check-ins, and can look for ways to lower your maintenance costs by adding lower maintenance plants and mulching which keeps weeds down and protects the garden in between visits.
Do you offer gardening services on the weekends and holidays?
We offer our services from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. We are closed for weekends and holidays.
Do you do one-off/single jobs?
Yes, we have a 4 hour minimum project time.
Can we do a co-production where I get to help out?
Yes! We call this ‘Co-gardening’. We give you guidance or ‘homework’, and you work on the parts you like, and leave the rest to us.
Does a garden clean up include removing doggie do-do and garbage?
We ask that your pet waste and garbage be disposed of responsibly in advance of our crew arriving at your property. It makes the job safer and easier for us and allows us to complete the work more efficiently. If there is a large amount of poop, we charge a specialty clean up fee of $50.
Can I get my entire fall cleanup done in one go?
Technically yes, however we appreciate it if we can break up your fall cleanup into at least two visits for large sites. We find it’s more efficient to clean up leaves before they become too compacted and waterlogged.
I have an emergency rush job that needs to be done. Can you make it happen?
We understand some projects need quick execution, and can offer an estimated completion date. Please let us know if you have certain time parameters and we will do our best to help. Generally, the wait time for projects is 3-6 weeks.
What makes you different from other gardening companies out there?
We look at everything through an artistic eye, taking care of fine details and ensuring your garden is transformed into a beautiful space. We believe in clear communication and maintaining solid client relationships. If something isn’t quite right, we’ll quickly follow through on correcting it.
With over 10 years of experience in high quality garden care, we have many tricks on how to lower overall maintenance, resulting in efficient service plans.
We have a passion for permaculture style gardening and strive to implement as many of its design principles as possible into each garden we tend. These can include: zero-scaping, drought tolerant plantings, rockeries, leaf and composted bark mulch, companion planting, beneficial insect plantings, organic fungicide and insecticide, electric equipment and biofuel.
I’m concerned about the use of pesticides and toxic weed killers. Do you offer alternative, safer methods?
Yes we do. White vinegar is a tried and tested homesteaders weed killer and is found to be highly effective. We also use organic cold pressed neem oil.
What does ‘Carbon Lite’ maintenance mean?
We predominantly use electric equipment as much as possible and have reduced our truck use through efficient maintenance loops and established walking routes in Mt. Pleasant. When we use gas powered equipment it’s with a biofuel that burns 92% cleaner than regular mixed gas and is ethanol free, emitting virtually no fumes. Better for you, for us, and the environment.
